Chanchona music is rooted in the rural life of the region of Oriente (East) of El Salvador. Chanchona, literally "big sow," takes it's name from the size & shape of the stringed bass that anchors this ensemble's music. While it's sound of violins, guitars, percussion & bass is distinctive, musically, it has a lot in common with nearby Caribbean & Mexican popular dance musics. Rhythmic Cumbias, lively canciones rancheras (country songs) slower, romantic boleros & homegrown lyrics form the core of the Chanchona's repertoire. 14 trks, 51 minutes, 36-pg booklet w/ bilingual notes!
